We couldn't bear see him suffering longer and decided to let him go .....
CH Ridgewater Irish Prince of Cork
is no longer with us; he passed away on Friday July 17th 2009 due to bone cancer in his knee and hind leg. First we thought he injured himself when moving on 3 legs. But pain killers didn't help. On the X-ray it was clear it was bone cancer and unfortunately no remedy was available for our beloved boy. Joe O'Calaghan: thank you for sending this lovely boy! We had a good time together and he is a friend forever.
Here is his story:
National Champion
On the picture below you see Prince and José in the show ring. He is really successful in the show world. Most of the times he is selected and often NR.1. Otherwise he wouldn't be finished at this young age. On the International CAC/CACIB show in Wijchen he won his final points to become a Dutch national Champion. A great accomplishment for Prince and his handler José. Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On this picture above Prince is just
9 weeks old
and resting in the chair of his master (Joe O'Callaghan from Ireland)
And here is Prince 10 months old
Looking at his full name one can imagine Prince has something to do with Ireland and he does. He is bred by Joe O'Callaghan who lives in Cork, Ireland. On this picture you see Joe, his daughter Aine and Prince when they came over to us to see how Prince was doing and celebrating his first birthday. On the picture below you see Prince at 10 weeks of age. Do you want to see more of his arrival in the Netherlands.....then click on the link or picture below
cheers with the Irish coffee
Prince his father, Bertus, is from our kennel. Joe has imported "Mooie Bertus from the Barking Bunch" back in 1997. Look at him at this picture beneath, where he is 7 years old, to see how he matured. That Bertus is a nice dog proves his winners title CRUFTS 2005. He was showed by José on this biggest show of the world (24.000 dogs entered ....). What a great accomplishment being the best of the golden oldies!
This is what the judge Gordon Howard (Walchwil) wrote:
"A dog of good size. Good overall markings.
Nice head and eye. Well angulated hindquarters, good bone and coat.
Well spring ribcage. Good free movement"

Bertsu was twice at Crufts. José has showed him there and on this video you
can see how much Prince looks like his father Bertus. Bertus won the Veteran
class at Crufts!

The mother of Prince is named: "Glanzberg Flame of Hope" (but for close friends she is called 'Hailey' :-). She is out of Sonja Gorboulds kennel "Glanzberg". Sonia is a very well known breeder and BMD Judge in the UK. She imported many BMD's from Switzerland to get new blood and one of them is the mother of Hailey: "Pia vom Nesselacker of Glanzberg" who has won the Crufts (the biggest show in the UK) several times!

General information on Prince
The father line of Prince is from the Barking Bunch and this is a very strong, compact and healthy father line. Especially if you go for longevity they established a good record: Bertus is born in 1997, Bonito is born in 1995 and Baron is born in 1994, so 10 years old at this moment and all still going strong! They are all middle sized dogs and have done well at shows! So they are beautiful as well! Look at this picture with Prince, granddad Bonito and grand-granddad Baron:
It's a pity that Bertus couldn't
join this reunion above: he was still in Ireland!
The picture above is taken in 2004, below in 2006!!!!!

Prince is out of a combination with these dogs and the Dutch kennel line of
“Het Hühneböske”
and dogs out of Switzerland.
The mother, Hailey, is a beautiful, well build female with wonderful show
results. She is out of Swiss lines from the famous kennels Nesselacker and
Scheimatthof.
All parents and grandparents are judged on hips and with very good results: most of them were free of hip dysplasia. And he himself has also perfect hips, they were X-rayed and judged by the national Dutch W.K. Hirschfeld Stichting. The result: HD A (free). And of course his elbows were also perfect: ED 0/0; no signs of elbow problems so the best result possible was also for him!
Prince is a powerful, beautiful, very harmonic dog of medium size and with a nice character and beautiful movement. José takes Prince with her to elderly homes especially to Alzheimer patients. They love to cuddle and play with him and he loves it too!

Prince is a dog to be proud of and WE ARE! Many thanks to the O'Callaghan family entrusting us with such a beautiful and lovely companion. Just take a look at their site of the Ridgewater kennel (URL: http://www.bernese4you.com).
