FROM ABROAD
Emma (a daughter of Simon and Djouka) started in the USA and is now a Chinese resident!
Emma
arrived safely! She was more than two hours early, though, so we were rushed
getting to her but she didn't seem to notice. We are home again at the lake and
she's confined to the kitchen during the night and allowed to be with us during
the day. She whined for only a few minutes before going to sleep. She's a sweet
girl and just a fur ball! She's very comfortable with us already and doesn't
seem to startle-- a good thing with two active toddlers. She's sniffing around
the house and likes to lie down on top of my foot. It reminds me of a
border collie/lab mix I grew up with. She's enjoying
herself and doing a good job of toilet training.
Then
her trip to Beijing
Well, Miss Emma made it just
fine by Northwest. She was more expensive
than our ticket! The crate was full-size so she had plenty of room. We put her
fuzzy toy and a stinky shirt of my husband into the crate and she seemed just
fine.
She's settled in well in Beijing and loves to sleep on our tile floors. She
spends her days lounging about and playing with the kids. She has
a grassy area outside that she uses for toileting and doesn't seem to want to go
anywhere else. She had some trouble in the house as expected but once we learned
how to communicate with her, she's been fine. She's a smart little puppy!
We haven't taken her out to the outdoor restaurants but we plan to soon. She's
socially excellent in that
she doesn't startle easily, she ignores people and children and other dogs
(usually) unless approached. When she sees that we are interacting with someone,
she is all over them, but she doesn't bother anyone without our lead. She's
learning to not jump up and we warn people that if they let her as a puppy,
they'll have a big dog barreling them over in a few months!

Emma is
still a fur ball and
her fur is much curlier. She also has fuzzy ears. She's really gorgeous in both
look and personality. We're delighted with her. Look at the pictures to see Emma

Sierra
This is "Mooie Sierra" who went to Kelly Cornell (and Rob). Kelly came over and picked Sierra up at our kennel:
Dear Peter, Jose, Janne, and Lenna,
First of all, I must thank you for such a wonderful welcome! You all have such a nice family and home. I was very impressed! They were very good to the puppy on the airplane and she was alright at the airport in Boston. A nice airline employee brought her right out to me and fetched my luggage right away. Everyone at the airport crowded around Sierra and me...it was crazy!!! Do you know that they didn't even check our passport or anything!!!! A customs officer kept talking to me about Sierra and walked me right out without even taking my customs declaration!!
Rob was there waiting and as I passed her over to him, he started to tear up. He INSTANTLY fell in love. It was great to see him so attached so quickly. The whole drive home Rob held her in his lap, and she was such a good passenger to just sit there quietly. When we got home, Dakotah went wild!!! He hasn't stopped following her around...he keeps licking her face as if he is giving her a bath. She rides well in the car and sits like a little princess in the front seat.
As I type this letter to you now, Dakotah is sleeping at my feet with Sierra right next to him....I don't think I could have expected anything better than this!!!
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
